【SNT Action Principles】A communication style for discussing goals or work items that helps team members to focus quickly and increase communication effectiveness

The SMART theory, proposed by management expert Peter Drucker in 1954, is a popular tool for setting common goals. In the book "The Practice of Management," Drucker suggested that managers should follow the "SMART" principles when setting goals: Specific (for specific goals), Measurable (values that can be measured and quantified), Attainable (goals that can be achieved), Relevant (inassociation with organization and strategy), and Time-based (with specific deadlines).

At Titansoft, when members discuss goals or any issue that require communication, such as actions or work items, the more memorable SNT principles are adopted.

  • Specific: a sentence that anyone can understand right away. Anything more than one sentence will turn it into an article; an article means an unattainable goal that can't be specific. Any room for different interpretations also means unspecific.
  • Number: a value that can be quantified. Example: "how much money" or "how many people."
  • Time: how long does it take. Example: "how many hours/days" or "complete before a specific date."

SNT is in the vein of Titansoft. Whenever we have to communicate in a limited time, we'll ask, "can we describe it with SNT?" This way, we can quickly focus on the tasks together and significantly accelerate the communication.
